Turkish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Ottoman Turkish گبرمك (gebermek), likely from Proto-Turkic *kapar- (“to swell”) (by association with the swelling of decomposing corpses); if so, a doublet of kabarmak (“to swell”) and related to gebe (“pregnant”), göbek (“navel”).
Pronunciation
[edit]Verb
[edit]gebermek (third-person singular simple present geberir)
- (slang, offensive) to die, to bite the dust, to croak
- Gidip geberse düğün dernek olacağım bir şahıs kendisi.
- They're the type of person I'd throw a merry-making over if they bit the dust.
Usage notes
[edit]- It sounds very rude and generally used for someone/something that wasn't loved.
