From Ancient Greek ὅλος (hólos, whole) + πρόσω (prósō, forwards, onwards) (referring to the prosencephalon (forebrain)) + ἐγκέφαλος (enképhalos, brain) + English -y (suffix denoting a condition), i.e. “condition of a whole (inappropriately divided) forebrain”. May be decomposed as holo- +‎ pro- +‎ -s- +‎ encephalo- +‎ -y
