Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Middle Dutch huuslook, from Old Dutch *hūslōk, from Proto-West Germanic *hūsalauk. By surface analysis, huis (house) +‎ look (leek), referring to their usage on the roofs of houses (compare the taxonomic name Sempervivum tectorum of the common houseleek; tectorum meaning "of roofs").
