  1. îi as dative of el or ea
    i-au zis (lui/ei) ceva?
    did they say something to him/her?
  2. îi as accusative of ei
    i-au făcut fetele acelea pe băieții să facă ceva prost?
    did those girls make the boys do something stupid?

Usage notes[edit]

Like all such contractions in Romanian, i-au has no lexical meaning by itself.
