From Arabic جِزْيَة ‎(jizya), from Persian گزید ‎(gazīd), گزیت ‎(gazīt, poll-tax), from Middle Persian 𐭢𐭦𐭩𐭲 ‎(gazīd), 𐭢𐭦𐭩𐭲𐭪𐭩 ‎(gazīdag, poll-tax), from Aramaic.
