From Arabic جِزْيَة (jizya), from Persian گزید (gazid), گزیت (gazit, poll tax), from Middle Persian 𐭢𐭦𐭩𐭲 (gazīd), 𐭢𐭦𐭩𐭲𐭪𐭩 (gazīdag, poll-tax), from Aramaic.
