[edit]From Middle Breton comps, from Proto-Celtic *kom-wep-s-, derivative of *wepos (“speech, voice”) (whence Welsh gwep (“face”)), from Proto-Indo-European *wekʷ- (“to speak”). Compare Ancient Greek ἔπος (épos), Latin vox.
