Latvian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *krū̆t- (protuberance, breast, belly), probably related to *kreu- (curve), *(s)ker- (to turn), *(s)kereu-. Possibly related to Old Irish crott (lute), Proto-Germanic *hraukaz (pile, stack), but these connections are uncertain.[1]
