kreotoxin (plural kreotoxins)

  1. Any basic (pH > 7) toxin produced by bacteria or fungi in meat.
    • 1921, The Eclectic Medical Journal - Volume 81, page 482:
      Kreotoxism is poisoning by decayed or infected meats, the basic poison being kreotoxin, produced by the growth and development of the plant micro—organism kreotoxiccon.
    • 2002, Huang Ju-Ming, “Clinical study on the treatment of facial spas and blepharospasm with kreotoxin A”, in Zhejiang Clinical Medical Journal, volume 1:
      39 cases of facial spas and 11 cases of blepharospasm, on whom common therapy had no effect, were locally injected kreotoxin A.
