  1. (uncountable) A genre of fantasy fiction, which is set in a world resembling that of a role-playing game (RPG), complete with levelling up, points statistics and game systems; frequently featuring the fantasy races found in RPGs. The protagonists in this genre are commonly awakened/reincarnated/transported/summoned into the game world, or are unable to log-off of a virtual reality (VR) RPG game.
  2. (countable) A work of fiction of this genre.
