Particularly: “GPC doesn't give an etymology. Phonetically, potential PIE root matches include *plew- (“to fly, flow”), *lewǵ- (“to break off, shatter”), and *lewk- (“bright; to shine; to see”). *lewk- seems like the most plausible candidate. Or maybe the word is borrowed from Latin lūna (“moon”) a la dydd Llun (“Monday”), itself from *lewk-.”

Probably related to Old Irish lúan (“Monday”).
