  1. (transitive) to become acquainted or familiar with something, to get to know something
    A kisgyereket leköti, amint megismeri a világot.The little child is absorbed in getting to know the world.
  2. (transitive) to recognize someone or something, to tell (to discern, notice, identify or distinguish)
    Synonyms: felismer, ráismer
    Megismerte a nadrágot: Pistáé volt, az övé volt elszakadva a bal térdénél.S/he recognized the pants: they belonged to Steve; those had a tear at the left knee.
  3. (transitive) to get to know someone, to make someone's acquaintance, to meet someone (to get acquainted with someone)
