Malay[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From a humorous misspelling of English Malays, itself from Melayu. It was also based on English malaise, meaning "illness" or "problem".
Pronunciation[edit]
Noun[edit]
meleis (plural meleis-meleis, informal 1st possessive meleisku, 2nd possessive meleismu, 3rd possessive meleisnya)
- (humorous, Internet slang) Malay people who behave with a backwards attitude, especially with conservative, racist, or extremely religious views.
Usage notes[edit]
The word itself is not offensive towards Malay people in general. It was created by Malay blogger to highlight stereotypically-racist views or backwards attitudes held by certain segments of the community.
