From Yiddish משוגע (meshuge, crazy), from Hebrew מְשׁוּגָּע (m'shugá, crazy), a form of שׁוּגַּע (shugá, be driven mad) and שִׁיגַּע (shigá, drive mad). First came into use in English around 1880.
