(deprecated template usage) From Middle Dutch misdaet, from Old Dutch *misdād (misdeed), from Proto-Germanic *missadēdiz < *missa- (mis-) + *dēdiz (deed, act). Equivalent to mis- +‎ daad. Cognate with Old Saxon misdād (misdeed), German Missetat, West Frisian misdied, English misdeed, Danish misdåd. More at misdeed.
