Etymology[edit]

From Sanskrit नमस्ते (namaste), from नमस् (namas, bow, obeisance, reverential salutation), and ते (te, to you),[1] from Proto-Indo-Iranian *namas- (to bow, prostrate). Compare Persian نماز (namâz).
