Etymology[edit]

From French narghilé, from Turkish nargile, from Persian نارگیله(nārgileh) from نارگیل(nārgil, coconut), which used to be used to construct the bowl, likely ultimately from Sanskrit नारिकेल (nārikela, coconut),[1] from a Dravidian language.
