From the stem of (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin Nērēis (sea-nymph), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek Νηρηΐς (Nērēḯs), from Νηρεύς (Nēreús, the sea-god Nereus).
