out-of-school suspension (plural out-of-school suspensions)

  1. (education) A type of primary and secondary school disciplinary method in which, for a given period of time, the students being punished are not allowed to attend school or be on the school campus for any reason.

Usage notes[edit]

Often used to distinguish from in-school suspension.
