From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old French ovrer, (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Late Latin operō, operāre, from the deponent Classical (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin verb operor. Doublet of œuvrer (an analogical form created to avoid the confusion with ouvrir) and opérer.
