Formed as ped- (“foot”) + -o- + -pathy (“disease”); an etymological hybrid equivalent to the (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin pēs (“foot”) + the (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek πάθος (páthos, “suffering”).
