[edit]From Portuguese palanquim, from Odia ପାଲଙ୍କି (pālaṅki), ultimately from Sanskrit पल्यङ्क (palyaṅka, “bed, couch, bedstead”), from परि (pari, “around, about”) + अङ्कस् (aṅkas, “bend, curve”).
