[edit]From Proto-Polynesian *pihi₁ (cognate with Samoan pipisi “to gush, to spout” and Tongan pihi “to squirt”) from Proto-Oceanic *pisi ~ *bʷisi “to spurt out, to fart”, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *picik “to splash, to spray, to sprinkle” (compare with Malay percik and recik “to splatter, to spray”).[1][2]
