Etymology

From late Middle High German plotzlich, from Plotz (clap, slap) (onomatopoeic). Cognate with Hunsrik pletzlich. Compare Middle Low German plutzlik (> Danish pludselig), Yiddish פּלוצלינג (plutsling).
