[edit](First attested in 1690.) Borrowed from Ancient Greek ψευδώνυμος (pseudṓnumos), from ψευδής (pseudḗs, “false”) + ὄνῠμᾰ (ónuma, “name”) + -ος (-os), ὄνῠμᾰ (ónuma) being a dialectal form of ὄνομα (ónoma, “name”).
