[edit]Various theories exist. Either diminutive of pulă (“dick”), or from Vulgar Latin root *pūtium (compare prepuț), from Old Latin pūtos (“penis”), or from root *pubucea, from Latin pubes, or from Vulgar Latin putta, feminine of puttus, superlative of putus. See Spanish and Portuguese puta.
