Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from English punch, from Hindi पाँच (pā̃c, five) (per the drink's original five ingredients: spirits, water, lemon juice, sugar, and spice), from Sanskrit पञ्चन् (páñcan). Doublet of keno, kvin, and Pompejo.
