Azerbaijani[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Possibly from Azerbaijani *kad-, whence also Azerbaijani qayğı; however, the intervocalic /d/ instead of expected /j/ is not quite clear.

Alternatively, from Common Turkic *kada- (to thrust into, to plunge into).

Compare dialectal Turkish gada.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): [ɡɑˈdɑ]
  • Hyphenation: qa‧da
  • (file)

qadan alımdarling, my dear (literally, “may I take your misfortune”)
