From Proto-Vietic *ro:ŋh, from Proto-Mon-Khmer *ruŋh ~ *ruuŋ() ~ *rəŋ() (hole, hollow); cognate with Khmer រូង (rung, hole, cave), Old Mon sruṅ (modern Mon သြိုၚ် (sang, hole, hollow).
