Etymology[edit]

rabbit +‎ -o

Noun[edit]

rabbito (countable and uncountable, plural rabbitos)

  1. (Australia, slang, historical, countable) A person who made a living by catching rabbits and selling the meat.
    • 2010, Graham Seal, Great Australian Stories: Legends, Yarns and Tall Tales, page 156:
This is a modernised version of Lawson's yarn: A rabbito, new to the job, was not having much luck. No matter what he did, he couldn't seem to bag a single rabbit. The old hands were doing well, so the new bloke asked them for advice.
  2. (Australia, uncountable) A taint in butter, caused by Pseudomonas putrefaciens.
