French

Etymology

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin recognōscere, present active infinitive of recognōscō.

Verb

reconnaitre

  1. to recognise

Usage notes

  • New spelling of reconnaître, as per the 1990 orthography reform; however, usually written in the traditional form.

Conjugation

This verb is one of a fairly small group of -re verbs that are all conjugated the same way. They are conjugated the same as the alternative spelling, which has a circumflex over the 'i', except that the circumflex is dropped here.
