red car (plural red cars)

  1. (historical, informal) A streetcar of the former Pacific Electric Railway mass transit system that went all across Greater Los Angeles.
    My father used to talk about how you could take a red car just about anywhere in the Los Angeles area.
  2. (historical) The entire now-defunct corporation and system of the Pacific Electric Railway.
    The red car operated from 1901–1961.
