[edit]reef-band (plural reef-bands)
- (nautical) A piece of canvas sewn across a sail to strengthen it in the part where the eyelet holes for reefing are made.
- 1846, “Improvements in Ships”, in Boston Journal:
- The rope passed from below up through a sister-block in the rigging at the topmast-head, thence through the end of the yard to a block in the reef-band of the sail, &c.
