Etymology[edit]
revon (“fox's”) + tulet (“fires”); from the archaic belief that the northern lights are a reflection of the fur of a "firefox"; see tulikettu. Cognate with Ingrian revointulet, Karelian revontulet, rebontulet, rebointuled, Livvi rebointuli and Ludian revontuled.
