rhachitome (plural rhachitomes)

  1. (zoology) Any amphibian of the clade Rhachitomi.

      The sequence of vertebral types led Watson to conclude that the primitive labyrinthodonts, embolomeres, had given rise to the rhachitomes and that these forms had eventually produced the ungainly, doomed stereospondyls.
