From a phonetic adaptation of English rickshaw, from Japanese 力車 (rikisha), an abbreviation of 人力車 (jinrikisha, literally vehicle pulled by a person's power), from Middle Chinese (nyin, person) + (lik, strength, power) + (tsyhæ, cart, vehicle).
