Cognate with Galician zapato ‎(shoe), Spanish zapato ‎(shoe), Basque zapata ‎(shoe), Catalan sabata ‎(shoe), Occitan sabata ‎(shoe), French savate ‎(worn-out (old) shoe) and Italian ciabatta ‎(slipper).
