  1. (transitive) To scrape completely; cover all over with scrapes.
    He should not have used that old dirty rag. Look how it scraped up his paint job.
  2. (transitive) to collect together by scraping
    scrape up all the dirt left in the bath.
  3. (transitive) to gather together something needed (especially money)
    If I empty all my pockets, search around the house, and ask a few friends for a loan, I should be able to scrape up enough money to buy that new suit.
