From Old Norse seðja, from Proto-Germanic *sadjaną. Compare the Latin satiō (“I satisfy”).

- (transitive, governs the accusative case) to fill, to satiate, to sate
- Seðja hrafn á holdi.
- To feed a raven with flesh.
