shakehole (plural shakeholes)

  1. (British, Northern England) A steep-sided, often conical, depression caused by slumping of ground into a cavity beneath. Shakeholes may or may not contain a cave entrance and/or a stream sink.
    Synonyms: sinkhole, swallow hole, swallet
