stegra (present stegrar, preterite stegrade, supine stegrat, imperative stegra)

  1. (reflexive) to rear up (of a horse (or another quadruped))
    Hästen stegrade sig
    The horse reared up
  2. (reflexive, figurative) to react negatively; to protest, to recoil, etc.
  3. (reflexive) to (sharply, often inadvertently) tilt up the front (of a plane or other vehicle or the like); to tilt back, to tilt up, to pitch up, to tip up, etc.
    Planet stegrade sig
    The airplane pitched up (sharply) / reared up
  4. to wheelie (get up on just the back wheel(s), on a bike or motorcycle or the like)
    Det är häftigt att stegra med cykeln
    Doing wheelies with your bike is cool
  5. (often in the passive or past participle) to (suddenly) increase or make more intense; to increase, to rise, to escalate
    Tonläget i debatten har stegrats
    The tone of the debate has gotten nastier (for example) / escalated
