Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Turkic *dï̄n [1], whence also Azerbaijani dincəlmək (to rest) and dinc (quite, peaceful). Cognate with Bashkir тынсыу (tïnsïw), Tatar тынчу (tınçu), Kazakh тыншу (tınşw, stuffy, poorly ventilated), Kumyk тунчукъ (stuffy, poorly ventilated).
