Ultimately from Ancient Greek θεωρία (theōría, contemplation, speculation, a looking at, things looked at), from θεωρέω (theōréō, I look at, view, consider, examine), from θεωρός (theōrós, spectator), from θέα (théa, a view) + ὁράω (horáō, I see, look).
