vast majority (uncountable)

  1. (idiomatic) The greatest part of something, to the point where alternatives are nearly irrelevant in size.
    The vast majority of people will not live to 110.

Usage notes[edit]

  • A majority refers to any part larger than 50%, but a vast majority usually makes up more than 95% of the whole.
