[edit]Inherited from Old Czech věcě (with the unexpected deiotation after "v"), from Proto-Slavic *věťa, 3rd person singular aorist form of Proto-Slavic *věťati. Compare větit. Only this form is found in Czech. Together with by, it is the only remnant of the Old Czech aorist.
