- (folklore) A usually malevolent spirit that resides in water.
Usage notes[edit]
- The nonsense sentence vesihiisi sihisi hississä (literally “the water devil hissed in the elevator”) is often used as a nursery rhyme to teach children the letter "s" or as a tongue twister.
