From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old High German werban, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Germanic *hwerbaną. Cognate with Dutch werven (to recruit), English wharve (to turn) Icelandic hverfa (to turn), Faroese hvørva (to disappear).
