Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish یوق یره (yoḳ yere),[1][2] from یوق (yoḳ),[3] equivalent to yok (there isn't, not, none) +‎ yer (place, ground) +‎ -e (dative suffix), literally to no place.
