Borrowed from Polish kwiat, suffixed with -ка (-ka) (compare Ukrainian кві́тка (kvítka)). Ultimately from Proto-Slavic *květъ, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱwoyt-o- (white, light), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱweyt- (white), whence English white. Related to Russian цвето́к (cvetók). Doublet of цвет (cvjet).
