Probably related to {{cog|ce|горгам}}, {{m|ce|горгум|t=floorcloth; rag for cleaning the gun after lubrication}}, {{cog|tab|гъюаь́ргъв||rag}}, {{m|tab|гъяргъ}}, {{m|tab|гъяргъвяр||rags}}, {{cog|lez|кьваркь||rag}}. For the {{cog|cau-nkh|-}} forms listed here a derivation from the Nakh word for ‘round; circle’ has been suggested: compare {{cog|ce|горга||round}}, {{m|ce|го||circle}},<ref>{{cite-book|last={{xlit|ru|Осмаев}}|first={{xlit|ru|М. К.}}|title={{xlit|ru|Чеченцы: обычаи, традиции, обряды (историкокультурные аспекты проблемы). Perhaps the Northeast Caucasian and Armenian are borrowed from {{bor|xcl|ira}}: compare {{cog|ckb|بەرگ|t=clothing, cover}}, ultimately from the Iranian root which gave {{m|xcl|վարտիք}}.

====Usage notes====
The only attested passage is the commentary on the grammar of Dionysius Thrax, where {{m|xcl||գորգ}} appears in a list of synonym pairs with {{m|xcl|կապերտ|t=rag}}, which would develop later into {{m|hy|կարպետ||carpet, rug}}. Based on this passage the dictionaries gloss {{m|xcl||գորգ}} as ‘carpet’, and the modern literary language has learnedly adopted it as the usual designation for ‘carpet’. The word is not recorded in the dialects. The new Northeast Caucasian parallels prove that the more precise and correct meaning is ‘rag, floorcloth’.
