[edit]From Middle Persian or Parthian *ābrēk possibly via Classical Syriac ܐܒܪܝܩܐ (ʾaḇrēqā), attested as Classical Persian آبریز (ābrēz) from آب (âb, “water”) + the present stem of the verb ریختن (rêxtan, “to pour”). Compare Northern Kurdish avrêjk (“ewer”).
